The Framework
The Framework is the threefold theological structure of Searching Theology:
Story → Meaning → Life
It moves from the story the Bible tells, to the meaning drawn from that story, to the life that flows from it.
Together, these structures describe how theological understanding is pursued, organized, and lived within Searching Theology.
The Story the Bible Tells (Story)
The Story the Bible Tells is the story that unfolds across Scripture from creation to new creation, revealing who God is, what has gone wrong in creation, what God is doing to restore His creation, and where the story is moving.
The story functions as the governing structure of The Framework. All theological understanding drawn from Scripture must remain accountable to this story.
The Meaning of the Story (Meaning)
The Meaning of the Story is the understanding drawn from the story and organized into The System.
Through engagement with the story, understanding develops and leads to conclusions, which are then organized into a coherent system.
The system is not the story. It belongs within Meaning and remains accountable to the story.
Because human understanding is limited, the system is never complete or beyond correction. It remains subject to ongoing clarification and correction as it is continually evaluated in light of the story.
Living the Story (Life)
Living the Story is the lived response shaped by The System.
The system is not an end in itself. It is meant to shape faithful living before God, under the reign of Jesus, by the Spirit, with His people, and in the world.
Life is not merely application added after theology is complete. It is the proper response to the meaning of the story.
The Framework in Simple Terms
The Story is the story the Bible tells, and the governing structure.
Meaning is the understanding drawn from that story and organized into a system.
Life is the lived response shaped by that system.
The story governs.
The system organizes.
Life responds.
