Project Terminology

Searching Theology uses specific chosen terms and phrases to describe the various layers of the project. The hope is that this helps to more easily understand and explore the project.

The Framework

This project operates within a threefold theological structure:

Story → Meaning → Life

What is the story?
What does the story mean?
How do we live in light of it?

The Story is the story the Bible tells, and the governing structure.
Meaning is the understanding drawn from that story and organized into a system.
Life is the lived response shaped by that system.

The story governs.
The system organizes.
Life responds.

The Project Ecosystem

Searching Theology is made up of various connected parts, some central and some supporting.

The Core Components

The Core Components are the two main parts of the project where most of the work takes place.

  1. The Search

  2. The Website

The Search — the space where ongoing theological development, exploration, clarification, and refinement occur.

The Website — the clear and navigable presentation of the “current” understanding of The Framework, which consists of Story, Meaning, and Life.

Supporting Parts

The Episodes — primarily the audio and video presentations of The Search and The Website while also including other topics and other parts of the project.

Transcripts, social media posts, videos, clips, and related media are also a part of the ecosystem.

Where You Are

You are currently on the Website.

This is where the current understanding is presented — not where it is developed.

The Website vs The Search

The Website and The Search serve different purposes.

  • The Website (where you are) presents the current understanding in a clear and organized way.

  • The Search shows how that understanding is developed over time.

If you want the clearest and most structured presentation, start here with the Website.

If you want to follow the process of how ideas are explored and refined, enter The Search.

Episodes and More

Episodes can be accessed from the Listen page and on YouTube.

They are primarily audio at this stage, with occasional guided visuals. Full video episodes may be developed over time.

You can explore all parts of the project from the Index page.
