Long Version
Life within Searching Theology describes the lived response to the meaning of the story the Bible tells.
It is not separate from meaning, but the expression of it—the way life is shaped when the story is understood and embraced.
Life is not simply a list of practices, but a structured way of living before God, under the reign of Jesus, in the Spirit, with His people, and in the world.
Each of these dimensions reflects a distinct yet unified expression of life shaped by the reality of what God has done and is bringing to completion.
Life is lived before God.
Because God is the Creator and the one who dwells with His people, life is not lived independently or at a distance, but in continual awareness of His presence. This life is shaped by trust, reverence, love, and dependence, as the whole person—heart, mind, and will—is oriented toward Him. Life before God forms the foundation of all other aspects of life, grounding everything in relationship with Him.
Life is lived under the reign of Jesus.
Because Jesus has been raised and established as Lord, life is no longer self-directed, but ordered under His authority. This includes allegiance to Him, obedience to His words, faithfulness over time, and the submission of the whole of life to His rule. It also includes living out His mission, as those who belong to Him live out what He is doing in the world. Life under His reign gives direction, structure, and purpose to how life is lived.
Life is lived in the Spirit.
Because God dwells within His people through the Holy Spirit, life is not sustained by human effort alone, but shaped, guided, and empowered by His presence. This life includes walking by the Spirit, ongoing transformation, dependence on His work, and empowerment for faithfulness and witness. It is also the life of the new creation, already begun through the resurrection of Jesus and experienced now within the present age. Life in the Spirit is how life under the reign of Jesus is lived.
Life is lived with His people.
Because God is forming a people who belong to Him, life is not lived in isolation, but in shared relationship. This includes love for one another, unity within the body, mutual encouragement and formation, accountability and restoration, forgiveness and reconciliation, and shared life together. Through these relationships, God’s people are formed, sustained, and strengthened over time. Life with His people gives communal shape to life in Christ.
Life is lived in the world.
Because believers remain within a world that does not yet fully reflect the reign of Jesus, they are called to live as faithful witnesses within it. This includes bearing witness to Jesus, living with visible distinction, engaging others with humility and love, navigating life with wisdom, enduring through difficulty, and inviting others into the life of His kingdom. Life in the world is the outward expression of life under His reign, lived within the tension of the present age.
Together, these dimensions form a unified way of life shaped by the reality of the risen Messiah.
Life flows from what God has done in Christ, is sustained by His presence through the Spirit, and is lived in anticipation of what He is bringing to completion.
This life is not fully realized in the present. It is lived within the tension of what has begun and what is not yet complete. As a result, it includes growth, struggle, perseverance, and ongoing formation.
Yet this life is real. It reflects the presence of God among His people and the beginning of the new creation within the present age.
Life therefore expresses the lived reality of the story—responding to God, aligning under His reign, being formed by His Spirit, walking with His people, and bearing witness in the world as the story moves toward its fulfillment.
