Seeking God’s Presence
Seeking God’s presence describes the posture of desiring, attending to, and living in awareness of God’s nearness.
Because God’s purpose is to dwell with His creation and His people, life before Him is not merely about knowing truths or following commands, but about living in relationship with Him. Seeking His presence is the expression of that desire—turning toward God Himself rather than only toward what He provides.
This seeking is not an attempt to bring God near, but a response to the reality that He is already present. It involves attentiveness, desire, and intentional turning toward Him within the ordinary rhythms of life. Rather than living distracted or distant, those who seek God’s presence live with awareness of Him as the one who is with them.
Seeking God’s presence is not limited to specific moments or practices, though it may be expressed through them. It is a continual orientation of life—returning to God, remaining attentive to Him, and desiring to be with Him.
Within the present age, this seeking takes place in tension. God is truly present with His people through the Spirit, yet His presence is not yet fully experienced as it will be in the renewed creation. Seeking His presence therefore reflects both what is already true and what is still longed for.
Seeking God’s presence is therefore a defining expression of life before Him—living with desire for Him, awareness of Him, and attentiveness to His nearness.

It also reshapes attention. In a world filled with distraction, seeking God’s presence calls us to return to Him—to become aware of Him in the midst of ordinary life rather than living as though He is distant.
This brings depth to the life of faith. Rather than remaining external or task-driven, life becomes relational—marked by desire, attentiveness, and ongoing turning toward God.
At the same time, it acknowledges tension. God is present, yet not fully experienced as He will be. Seeking His presence therefore includes both awareness and longing—living in what is already true while desiring its fullness.
Ultimately, seeking God’s presence centers life on God Himself. It keeps relationship at the core, ensuring that life before God remains relational rather than merely functional.
