Submission of Life
Submission of life describes the reordering of the whole person under the authority of Jesus.
Because Jesus reigns as Lord, life is no longer directed by self-rule. Submission involves yielding desires, priorities, decisions, and direction to Him, recognizing His authority as the one who rightly governs life. It is the inward alignment of life under His reign.
This submission is not limited to specific areas, but extends to the whole of life. It addresses not only actions, but motivations, intentions, and desires. Rather than selectively following Jesus, submission brings all of life under His authority.
Submission of life is not passive resignation, but active alignment. It involves ongoing decisions to yield to Christ’s authority, especially when His ways challenge personal preference, cultural expectations, or natural inclination. It is expressed through willingness to follow Him even when it requires change, sacrifice, or surrender.
Within the present age, this submission unfolds in tension. The pull toward self-rule remains, and competing influences continue to shape desires and direction. Submission therefore involves continual reorientation—returning to Christ’s authority and aligning life with Him over time.
This submission is sustained through the work of the Spirit, who reshapes the inner life and enables alignment with Christ. As a result, submission is both chosen and formed—expressed through real decisions while grounded in God’s ongoing work.
Submission of life is therefore a defining expression of life under the reign of Jesus—living with the whole of life ordered under His authority.

Submission of life reflects the restoration of humanity under God’s rule. As God’s purpose moves toward dwelling fully with His people, submission expresses the ordering of life under His authority, anticipating the day when all creation will live in full alignment with His will.

Yet submission is not loss, but restoration. It returns life to its intended order—living under God’s rule as it was meant to be from the beginning.
Ultimately, submission of life is not about diminishing the self, but about rightly ordering it. It is the ongoing alignment of life under the authority of Jesus as the one who reigns.
