The Work of Jesus

The work of Jesus the Messiah is the decisive act through which God confronts and overcomes the realities introduced by rebellion—sin, corruption, and death—and opens the way for humanity to be restored to life with Him.

Through His faithful life, Jesus lives as the true human and faithful representative within the story of Israel, embodying the obedience and trust that humanity was created for and that Israel was called to display.

Through His willing death, Jesus enters fully into the condition shaped by sin and death. He confronts sin, corruption, and the powers of death not by avoiding them, but by stepping into their domain and remaining faithful to God within it.

Through His resurrection, God shows that Jesus is the true Messiah and that His death was not defeat but the beginning of victory, and the power of death is broken. His resurrection marks the turning point of the story and the beginning of the new creation.

Through His exaltation, Jesus is enthroned as the risen Messiah and now reigns with authority over heaven and earth. His reign continues as the reality of His victory advances within the present age.

The work of Jesus therefore stands at the center of the story—accomplishing what humanity could not, fulfilling Israel’s vocation, and establishing the foundation for restored life with God.

Purpose Connection

Why This Matters

Understanding the work of Jesus the Messiah reveals the turning point of the story and the foundation of restored life with God.

What humanity could not overcome—sin, corruption, death, and the powers that oppose God—God confronts and overcomes through Jesus. His faithful life, willing death, resurrection, and exaltation together form the decisive act through which the direction of the story changes.

This reshapes how we understand reality.
The problem that defines the world is not left unresolved.
Through Jesus, a new reality has begun.

This also reshapes how we understand our place within the story.
We are not observers of what Jesus has accomplished, but those who are brought into it.
His life defines what humanity was meant to be.
His death confronts what we could not overcome.
His resurrection opens the way into new life.

This shapes how we live.
Life is no longer defined by sin, corruption, and death as ultimate realities, but by the life of the risen Messiah.
We live in response to what He has accomplished, living in His life and aligning ourselves under His reign.

Understanding the work of Jesus therefore leads to reorientation—living in the reality of the new creation that has begun through Him as the story moves toward its fulfillment.
